In this article, I am going to talk about mentally disabled people. In Hong Kong, there are over 75000 mentally disabled people. The biggest problem that mentally disabled children face is the negative attitudes towards them; for example, people think the mentally disabled people are scary.
If ordinary people open their hearts, they can make friends with them. We can hold some fundraising events to raise money to help the mentally disabled people for treatment and education. For example, we can organise events like dress casual day, jumble sale, sponsored walk and talent show. I also think we should have interactions with mentally disabled people.
In the first place, we should hold some fundraising events. I think there can be more interactions for mentally disabled people and the public.
According to a Treats’ social worker, the experience gives mentally disabled young people more confidence in themselves. I think we can hold the exhibition. Through fact sheets, cartoons and quizzes, the exhibition aims to change the negative attitudes towards the mentally disabled.
