Earlier this month, lawmakers approved a funding request for a proposed high-speed rail line linking Hong Kong and Guangzhou. However, the mainly traditional villages will be torn down to make way for the rail line. There is no doubt that this scheme will make many people very disappointed since it will waste the resource of Hong Kong.
I think that the government wants to improve the economy. When the high-speed rail link completes, it will increase the inflow of tourists from the mainland. However, I think that this is wrong since it will make people angry. For example, the Tsoi Yuen villagers will lose their homes. Many young people want to help them. They try to go to the Legislative Council to protest. Hence, I think that the government should consider them carefully.
