200 protest to demand better coverage for injured workers (SCMP)
More than 200 people protested yesterday to call on the government to set up a compensation system for workers who are injured or killed. This protest came five days after a worker at a Henderson Land construction site was killed. The group will hold another protest outside the offices of the Labour Department at the Harbour Building in Central tomorrow.
I think the government should set up laws to protect the workers. Since workers often cannot get the compensation, the government should make it easier for injured workers to apply for legal aid by relaxing application criteria. The injured workers cannot work and they will have the financial burden, so they need the help from government.
